"Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree. In the eyes of children, they are all 30 feet tall." ~ Larry Wilde

We recently put up our Christmas Tree.  It's a bit smaller this year than in previous years, so we ended up decorating it with only our most meaningful ornaments.  Some of my favorites are from students years and years ago.  The really important ones though are our family ones - as I am sure is the case for most of us. Bruce and I each have an ornament from our first trees as newborns - that's pretty neat I think.  His is the first one below - the large Santa.  The second one - Santa on Skis - is mine.  It's so tiny that I am a bit frantic each year as we take the tree down, that it does not get lost in the process.

Then there are the ones done by my son when he was really little - they just touch my heart so - I love them best of all.

I have taken to tucking photos into our Christmas tree boughs.  Here is Bruce on Santa's knee - I think a see a little bit of the boy from "A Christmas Story" on his face!

Lastly is the holiday card that my parents sent out on my first Christmas.  I do look pretty adorable, I must say.

What are your favorite holiday things to display?  My husband has a singing Christmas tree that drives me nuts, but hey - to each his own!

  1. What a special touch you have, placing sentimental photos in your tree. Just brilliant. Alex's early ornaments are fabulous! I love Children's books, so I open up and display my favorite Christmas ones in our glass-top coffee table. Happy Holidays, T.!

  3. I LOVE the coke can ornament. And I love that you actually put it on the tree! One of my favorite things to put out are these 2 bronze deer that I put in the front yard. They are about two feet high and look like silhouettes of deer in the woods. I shine a soft blue wintry light on them. They have followed us to each and every house (except overseas). No one likes them but me but I get a kick out of them every Xmas!

  4. Your tree decoration is beautiful and very touching! I love the idea about decorating with things that add to your family story and have a special meaning to you and your family. My parents do this, too.

And I had quite a laugh about the singing Christmas tree! My Grandma has a singing Santa which drives my Grandpa mad :)

So, although we are thousands of miles apart, there are always some things we all share - and be it just a singing christmas decoration :)
