World Wide Knit in Public Day

One week from today is. . . .

World Wide Knit in Public Day, (WWKIP) a little history ~

"World Wide Knit in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes.  It began as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each others' company.  Knitting is such a solitary act that it is easy to knit alone somewhere and sink into your work without thinking about all the other knitters out there.  Neighbors could spend all their lives never knowing that the other knits.  This a specific day to get out of your house and go to a local event (with your knitting in tow) just for you and people like you.  Who knows you might even bump into your neighbor!  Consider this a spark, to ignite a fire; getting all of the closeted knitters out into fresh air."http://www.wwkipday.com/history.htm

Last year, our little knitting group decided that we would participate, and we gathered at the Homer Farmer's Market, with our knitting in tow.  We had such a good time!  It was so different from meeting in the library, which had been our gathering spot at that point.  It is also where Renee announced that she was going to open her knit shop, Spun Right Round, in the fall.  There were a lot of happy knitters that day!

In addition to the Homer Farmer's Market, it was also the same day and location as Homer Blue Grass on the Green.  So - knitting (and crocheting and whatever!), good food, good friends and good music ~ what a wonderful time!

This year we are doing it all again - same time, same place, same fun.  If you are in our neck of the woods (Central New York), head over the Homer Farmer's Market, which runs from 9-1, and stick around to enjoy the Homer Blue Grass on the Green, which goes from 12-6.  The official time for knitters is anywhere between 10-2, but if it's anything like last year - you'll see us there well into the afternoon. (Rain location is at Spun Right RoundI plan to share some photos here later on down the road.

If you go to the World Wide Knit in Public Day site, you can look up the WWKIP nearest you,   regardless of where in the world you live. Enjoy some time spent in the company of other creative people!  What a wonderful way to spend your day!
