“No woman ever ages beyond eighteen in her heart.” ~ Robert A. Heinlein

Two years ago, I brought you a post about the St. Petersburg Farmers' Market. It is a wonderful weekly event (though not open in the hottest months).  A combination of craft fair, food court, music and yes, farm goods - the Farmers' Market is a "people watcher" mecca!  The first photo below is of "June", that I took two years ago. June is a winter resident of St. Petersburg.  She spends the rest of the year at her home near Buffalo, NY.

We would see June every Saturday, dancing away to whatever band happened to be playing. I, along with numerous passersby, danced a dance with her along the way. We delighted in seeing her every week, as I know did hundreds of other market visitors.

When we arrived at our first Farmers' Market this year, we headed right to where the band was playing, hoping to spot June. We did not see her.  We circled the market a couple of times, taking in the sights, smells and sounds - always coming back to where the band was. No sooner had we voiced to each other that perhaps June had danced her last dance - there she was!  I didn't have my camera with me that first day, so I got a couple of cellphone shots. Dressed as colorfully as ever, June was kicking up her heels to music she whispered to me was a bit too slow for her liking.

Last week I had my camera with me - you will notice that coincidentally June is dressed in the same outfit as the one in the picture from two years ago.

June told me that she hopes God will keep her healthy enough to keep on dancing. "As long as I can bring a smile to people's faces - that's what I want to do." I hope so too!

I want to be June when I grow up.........

  1. The opening quote you chose is so true! You had me worried about June for a moment. I'm relieved to hear (and see) she's still dancing!
